When your car won’t start, it may give you a quick self-diagnosis:  

 “Check Engine”

 Smoke may be coming out of your muffler. 

 They key may not turn over. 

 Or you may hear sounds in your dashboard.

The quick (but pretty accurate) diagnosis to check the engine essentially says: Find the real problem. Just because you could get the car moving with a Band-Aid solution doesn’t mean you’ve fixed anything.
