Sometimes your job is to let it burn

Leadership’s job is not putting out fires.

Leadership’s job is to look at the resources.

Look at the assets.

Look at the mission.

And most of the time, say:

“Let it burn.”

Which is almost always controversial.

And that’s why it’s difficult to do.

But if you aren’t selecting priorities, you aren’t managing effectively.

And if you’re trying to do it all, you rarely get anything done well.

As Michael Porter said:

“The essence of strategy is choosing what not to do.”
